The remains of a 12th century home have been unearthed in
New Romney.
Archaeologists have discovered the wooden house with two
hearths and some pottery at Sussex Road. Drainage ditches
and oysters shells were also uncovered.
It is thought the New Romney residents of 900 years ago
would have used the hearths for open fires not only to keep
warm, but also to do their cooking.
