ROMNEY RESOURCE CENTRE RECEIVES AWARD
The Romney Resource Centre has received an award
for its work in the
community.
The centre, in New Romney, was honoured at the Learninvicta
Celebration of Achievement at Rochester.
More than 100 learners, tutors and business people attended
the
event, which was hosted by Meridian weather presenter Gemma
Humphries and Garrie Owens, the Chief Executive of Learninvicta,
the Kent and Medway arm of the national organisation Learndirect
which helps adults improve confidence, skills and self belief
to achieve their educational goals.
"Many of our learners have not engaged in learning
for over three
years, most since they left school," said Mr Owens.
"Learninvicta brings our learners the ability to take
control of
their learning and to improve their potential. Many of our
learners have achieved their first qualification through
Learninvicta with many moving on to further learning through
the colleges and universities."
The awards, competed for by learners, tutors, mentors and
companies, were presented by Chris Hearn, vice chairman
of the Learning and Skills Council for Kent and Medway,
who congratulated all the winners.
"Learninvicta is a great way for people and organisations
to make the most of their potential," he said.
"Many people all over the county have worked hard over
the last year to boost the personal development of individuals
and help firms move towards their business goals."
Romney Resource Centre received the award for Community
Contribution.
Folkestone and Dover Water Services won the Company Award,
and the Employee Award was won by employee Heather Jordan,
from Folkestone, who was praised for her "dedication,
motivation and commitment" to learning and other learners.
