A suspected armed robbery at the Nationwide Building Society
in New Romney has left one man dead and three others in
custody.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad carried
out the operation.
It happened at about 8pm on Tuesday and the Independent
Police Complaints Commission is to hold an investigation.
Kent Police say they are working with the Metropolitan Police
and the IPCC.
The man who was killed has not yet been named. He died in
the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford after being taken
there from the scene by ambulance. No police officers were
injured.
Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene and has
been taken away for forensic examination.
