ROMNEY NEWS
St Nicholas Church of England Primary School in New Romney
has been chosen as one of the next 20 locations for new
children's centres.
In 2003, the Government decided that every local
authority should identify locations for Children's Centres
particularly within the 20 per cent most deprived wards.
Kent already has 20 Children's Centres either built or in
the process of being built and by 2008 will have a total
of 72 in place.
The centres serve children and their families from the antenatal
period, through until children start in reception or Year
1 at primary school. Each offers a wide range of services
to families with babies and pre-school children.
Other sites include Hythe Early Excellence Centre, Shepway
Early Years Centre - and Phoenix Community Primary School
at Ashford.
Cabinet Member for Education and School Improvement at KCC
John Simmonds said: "The Children's Centres we already
have in the county are doing some remarkable work with their
communities and I am delighted we can announce where we
believe the next 20 centres should be located. Giving children
the best start to life and supporting their families with
quality advice and guidance will have an enormous impact
on future generations."
