Back home after work experience in hospitals in the Kingdom
of Nepal, 17-year-old Nick Sanyal of New Romney is even
more determined to become a surgeon.
Nick, in his last year at Cranbrook school, was assisted
financially by members of Dover Rotary Club to travel to
Nepal on work experience and he has now visited the club
to tell members of his experiences.
Although he admits he has no medical experience Nick was
called upon to dress wounds in the Nepalese hospital and
carry out other medical tasks. In his opinion the king of
Nepal, who had dissolved Parliament, had "destroyed
any hopes of democracy in the country."
The people, he said, were very kind and generous when they
were able. Talking about the diet Nick told of the delights
of chicken-stuffed dumplings. "It proved to be an amazing
experience and one that has given me extra drive to be a
surgeon," he said.
