Marsh Forward has succeeded in it's application
to become a Development Trust for the area.
The Development Trust Association approved the application
last Thursday, 1st July, to make Marsh Forward the lastest
addition to the South East regional group.
The group operate with the vision of improving people’s
quality of life in a designated area, achieving this through
a range of projects which are funded through a combination
of public & private sector grants and donations and
through social enterprise.
Among the many benefits of becoming a development trust
is that Marsh Forward will now be encouraged to use business
methods, such as trading and building up assets, to create
an income that can be used to bring wealth and improvements
to Romney Marsh. The trust would be trading on a not-for-profit
basis, with surplus funds used to help Romney Marsh projects.
"In our view Marsh Forward stands to benefit in a variety
of different ways by joining the national network of Development
Trusts.
"We have access to an enormous national network of
development trusts that can assist us in our progress, we
have access to specialist funders and we have enormous resources
to call upon should the need arise.
"We have much to learn, but we now have ways of finding
the answers" said a Marsh Forward spokesperson at the
announcement.
"By being welcomed into the Development Trust Association,
we have taken a big step forward on behalf of Romney Marsh.
We feel it is a step in the right direction and we hope
that you do too!"
