NEW ROMNEY NEWS
Three men have been arrested, and two police officers
injured, following an attempt to steal a cash machine
from Sainsbury's supermarket in New Romney early this
morning (Wednesday, February 28).
A police patrol was near the supermarket in Church Road
just after 3am when the incident took place. It was the
latest in a series of ram raids involving cash machines
throughout Kent.
A vehicle was driven into the wall of Sainsbury's in an
attempt to take the ATM, but police were quickly on the
scene and arrested three men, all in their 20s and 30s.
A fourth man is still being sought.
Two officers suffered broken ankles during the arrests,
and one also had a broken tibia. Police say he may need
surgery.
Several police cars were also damaged.
The scene has been cordened off while officers carry out
a forensic examination.
