NEW
ROMNEY NEWS
New Romney will be one of the towns benefiting from a partnership
between Kent Fire & Rescue Service and the charity Caring
All Together.
By the end of this month, thanks to talks through the charity
to
elderly and isolated people in the Romney Marsh area, Community
Fire Safety officer Peter Medhurst will have carried out
home fire safety checks to more than 50 homes over a period
of just four days.
As part of these home fire safety checks, smoke detectors
are fitted
if needed. In addition, advice on a number of home fire
safety issues is given, such as kitchen safety, electrical
fires, smoking materials, escape plans, night-time routines
and inspection of smoke detectors already in place.
The charity had a visit from Peter at the end of last year
and from
that he was able to set up the home fire safety checks in
areas including New Romney, Dymchurch, Greatstone, Wittersham,
St Mary's Bay, Appledore and Lydd.
Peter said "We are always very grateful to be able
to work
alongside other community groups like this one because it
enables us to gain access to those who really need our home
fire safety advice, such as the elderly. Almost all fires
in the home can be prevented and the tips we provide really
could help prevent a fire starting in your home."
